I think his home planet had two suns and a much higher gravitational pull. When he got to earth he found that our puny amount of gravity couldn't hold him so if he leaps and glides, he can fly.

The reason superman can fly is because his cells absorb yellow sun radiation, which in turn make it possible for him to exude energy in proportion to his other power, EXTRA-cellularly. Meaning superman shoots invisible energy from the sun out of his body in whichever direction he wishes to go. This is such a natural biological process for the Kryptonian man of Steel that it's like walking or breathing to him. This is true for any kryptonian that harnesses the power of the Yellow sun as is evident in many continuities where he runs across others from his home planet. Krypton isn't heavier and earth air isn't thinner. In the original comics he couldn't fly at all but only jump very tall distances, this changed when Superman became more popular.

But the answer IS that he is from another planet. If you watch the movie they explain it. Because earth has weaker gravity than krypton, therefore on earth the laws of gravity that applies to humans does not apply to superman. But in reality the real reason is that superman is a fictional character and they use a lot of camera tricks and special effects.

Well from what the comic books say since he lives on Earth his Kryptonian powers are intensified and he Gathers Energy from our Yellow sun. Also if you read the really old superman comic books it shows how different color Kryptonite can affect different things.

Earth's gravitation and overall atmosphere helps Superman fly, and have other super abilities. His cape helps him balance his flying speed, and also where he hides his clothes when he changes to Superman.

Krypton however, he did not have these great powers.

I believe it has something to do with the atmosphere or gravitational force of Krypton. Superman is normal there, but has superhuman capabilities on Earth.
