P.I.D., or pelvic inflammatory disease, is common in younger women, esp. ones w/multiple partners, or whose partners are not hygienic (clean) and/or don't use condoms.

It can take awhile or come on very suddenly. It can also travel into other parts of the body and in some cases, cause sterility. It's very serious!

Sometimes it causes a fever, chills and an ache in the pelvic area and even a discharge (pus). Sometimes there are no symptoms. If you even THINK you have it, get medical attention NOW...they'll put you on antibiotics, which usually clear it up if it hasn't gone on too long.

Also, women who've had PID should NEVER use the contraceptive called the I.U.D (INtrauterine device)...in fact, it's thought by many health care workers that these can CAUSE PID.
