You don't quite understand the history behind baseball and football...
Football may be the most popular, but it has not been around very long. As far as sports go, football is quite young and the NFL is even younger going back to about 30 years ago. Baseball has been played since the 1800 and the first world series was held prior to 1900. Baseball for years was America's Past Time and it still is; that term was coined back when baseball was the most watched and loved sport in America.
Many people are too impatient to enjoy baseball, but it is still the sport that defines our nation. Baseball brought us through the world wars, the great depression and even 9/11. The history of baseball is so rich and ingrained in American history it cannot even be compared to football which has simply been a form of entertainment. Baseball is a part of heritage, every American's.
The color barrier in professional sports was broken in Baseball. Women played in the 1940's while the men were off fighting in Europe. Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Roger Maris, Mickey Mantle... these names, mostly from the 1920's and 30's will live in forever. Football was barely even invented yet.
Baseball is and will always be America's Past Time. Who cares what the ratings say?

it's because baseball was the first of the Big 3(baseball, basketball, and football.) That's what it's referred to as in historical terms. It's not considered that presently.

sure football is watched by everyone but baseball is played by everyone. bet you probably even played tball as a little kid. both boys and girls can enjoy playing baseball. you kinda need to be physically fit and at the very least coordinated to step on the gridiron , theres no right field to hide the slow pokes in football.

Professional baseball is much older than professional football and it was historically the nation's past time. I like to pretend it still is, personally.
