First, I will say that she should consult a physician if she is having numbness in her arm. Second, the numbness could be due to a number of things. Two major causes come to mind: 1) A TIA (transient ischemic attack), or what some people call a "mini stroke" can leave a person temporarily numb on one side or with speech deficit, etc. 2) She could have a nerve problem in that arm. If the numbness is from elbow to fingers, then perhaps she has a trapped or "pinched" nerve in her elbow; if the numbness starts at the shoulder, then its possible that she has a trapped nerve in the shoulder joint. Obviously, it's impossible to diagnose your wife's problem over the internet. She should have a check-up with a physician to determine the nature of the problem and to make sure she's not at risk for a stroke or heart attack.

How old is she? If she's over 30, overweight, out of shape and/or has a family history of heart disease, I'd be worried. SHe should have an EKG, echocardiogram and a "Stress-echo" to measure blood flow thru the heart.

IF THOSE are okay, then is she...uh...large-breasted? This (the weight of it) can often cut off blood flow to the arms, esp. after menopause! Yes, it's weird, but she should look into it, esp. if she's overweight. Don't let her put it off!

Numbness in an arm can be a sign of heart attack.

I really think she should consult a doctor. There are many medical issues that are not as well understood for women as they are for men--like heart disease.
