The media has been using propaganda and lies since its creation. What the public actually knows is only a miniscule amount of what it should. It's a shame, but people aren't fighting back, are they? Even when there is good information out there people close their eyes to it.

I think this depends which media you are talking about. There are a lot of really great media. My hometown newspaper, for instance, works very hard to give a fair, balanced report. An organization such as Fox News, however, falls short of this. I think all journalist's start out wanting to help the world by reporting the truth. Unfortunately, sometimes it is hard to know what the truth is because sources can mislead the journalists. And then again, there are some media organizations (ahem..Fox News) that abuse their power. The moral of the story is that people need to be more attentive of who they are getting their information from and if they are credible. This goes for journalists that are collecting the information as well as the public at large. As a short answer to your question though, I don't think the media as a whole is misleading the public. I think some individual media corporations may mislead the public, however.

It's not the media who's misleading with lies and propaganda, it's the sources who talk to the media. Because of the need to get stories finished, the media will not question what authorities say because of fear of losing sources. The media is just a conduit for the lies and propaganda bestowed on us and the media is helpless to do anything about it.

No, at their best, the media is helping the public by allowing the military to do its job without unnecessary risk to the soldiers. The media isn't misinforming the public, the government is. The media just pass it on...

Duh. Take EVERYTHING the media tells you with a grain of salt, and remember that there are ALWAYS at LEAST 2 sides to a story. The media simply tells you what is most sensational because that is what "most" of us want. Why do you think rags like The National Inquirer are still in print?
