x+y= 180 ..... lets you find that x = 180 - y

x= 2y+24 says "x is 24 more than 2y"

substitute in for x and this becomes

180 - y = 2y + 24

solve for y

3 y = 180 - 24 ..... give y = 52

substitute that value into the first equation and solve for x

x + 52 = 180 ..... x = 128

1) x+y=180
2) x=2y+24, by substitution
x=2(180-x)+24=384-2x
3x=384
x=128, y=52 Checking
128=24+2(52)=24+104=128 OK
By simultaneous equations subtract 2) from 1) giving
y=-2y+156
3y=156
y=52, x=128

x + y = 180

x = 2y + 24

(2y + 24) + y = 180
2y + 24 + y = 180
3y + 24 = 180
y + 8 = 60
y = 52

x = 2(52) + 24
x = 104 + 24
x = 128

The anges are 52° and 128°
