For example, an 80 GB hard drive has more drive space than say a 75 GB hard drive. It even has more drive space than a 50 GB hard drive!

For example, though, an 80 GB hard drive has less drive space than say a 100 GB hard drive.

HAPPY SURFING ON THE INTER-WEB!!!

It totally depends on what you want to use your computer for... If it's a general home PC for surfing the web and doing basic tasks, then 80gb is fairly big.

However if you do things live video editing, or like having films and music on your hardddrive, you'll end up filling 80gb fairly fast.

If you're not sure what you are going to be doing, always get the biggest drive you can afford. You can always add other harddrives as you need them, and even copy the information from your old drive onto your new one...

I do this and sell the old ones on ebay, which gets a little money back as well :)

if you want an example as far as space goes.. let me put it this way (estimations):

one mp3 (one music file) is around 5 megabytes (MB) usually.. there is 1000mb in one gigabyte.

so in theory you can fit 200 songs into one gigabyte. if you have an 80 gigabyte hard drive, that is basically 16000 songs into that drive.

however your operating system (windows usually) uses some memory and so do each of the programs that you install into it. the game world of warcraft is about 5 gigabytes worth of memory. just to give you an idea. programs vary in size.

if you're looking to buy an 80 gb drive and you are a hardcore gamer/programmer/animator then that might not be enough memory. especially if you love downloading. otherwise it is a decent sized drive (not gigantic though). if you ever run out of space you can always add on another hard drive and hook it up as a slave.

Are you referring to space or dimensions? If it's space, it's a lot. I have an 80GB hard drive and I'm a graphic designer. I have tons of projects, music and images saved on my computer, not to mention countless programs and applications.

a 80gb hard drive is 80,000 mb(mega bytes) 80,000,000 kb (kilo bytes) and 80,000,000,000 bt (bytes)
a drive of that size should be enough for a average user,i use a hitachi deskstar 80gb in my 2nd p.c and i download on a regular basis and i very rarely go over 40gb
the dimensions for these drives are 3.5" and laptop drives are smaller at 2.5"

one line of print is about 80 characters.
each character takes 8 bits of space on a hard drive.
that means (generally speaking) you can store
10 billion letters on your hard drive.
thats something like 100 sets of encylopedias....

In todays terms quite small.

With WinXP you could go for a 160GB for about £7.00 more.

Bigger the better as you will not need to upgrade so soon.

For normal use, 80Gig is plenty. If you're going to copy a lot of CDs then, think bigger.

The biggest drives are 750Gig... so you see how the technology is going.
