Does it stutter & then die or just shut off?

What you are describing, i think, is a failed ignition control module.
However, it "could" be the magnetic pick-up in the distributer.
Luckily, neither is very expensive nor hard to replace.

.When you look at the ignition module (located on the firewall under the front lip) do you see something that looks as if it melted & ran down the firewall?
If so, it's the module for sure.

I believe that's one of the years they would have the infamous Lean Burn computer mounted on the air cleaner, right where it gets exposed to the engine heat. Yours may be cooked. You can tell a Lean Burn system by the lack of vacuum advance on the distributor. If this is the case, you may be able to find the problem by a spark test. You can ditch the Lean Burn by installing an earlier distributor, standard carb, and a new ignition module - either the regular Mopar one or a GM-type HEI module.

maybe its the ECM electronic control module which is confusing the operating temp. as over heating..

have your unit checked or propably you are low on fuel and your guage jammed up
could also be the timing

Check two things.fuel and electric. I would guess that you have an alternator that is cutting out. Mopars are notorious for this.

could it be the fuel pump? I know thats what happened to my car when the fuel pump went out.
