A colleague of mine, an Australian living in Japan told me this story of being in a McDonalds in Japan. A group of young americans were at the counter and asked for, whatever, as they would have in America. They made no attempt to adjust whatsoever. The poor Japanese server tried her best to understand and communicate with them in English but they failed even to speak a little slower than normal. When they failed to get through to her one of them said "Don't you guys even speak English?".

This quite appalling insularity is, I'm afraid, quite typical. To have denied an age-old culture like the Japanese, to be so unwilling to consider others as to, apparently, be unaware that their first language in not your own.....well its rather annoying.

That story was told about an incident in Japan by an Australian with fellow-feeling to an Englishman. Way to go America - how to annoy three continents in one go!

I don't hate all american people. I do dislike the current adminitration and most of their policies, including domestic policies. Besides that, I only hate some close-minded rednecks in the country. Anyhow, I encounter lots of people like that everywhere I traveled to, so it's not just American. However, their travelers do get a kinda loud and arrogant, especially those who travel with mid to high range spendings. American travelers in hostels are generally pretty cool (well there are reasons for them to do Hosteling). Another thing about the American travelers in central and south America is that, the girls are acting really "easy".

By the way, someone mention jealousy, and correct me if I was wrong. Why would be be jealous about American people and hate them? What will they be jealous about?

Not everybody. My friend lives in America, she had this Brazillian student come and live with her. The girl went psycho after like, a month, ran away from their house to this other transfer student's and told everyone that my friend's family was holding her hostage and like, making them do all their chores. I'm sure all Brazillians aren't like that. It pissed me off so much when I heard about it though because they had spent way over the suggested amount (out of their own HARD EARNED MONEY, not hers) to take her to New Years in NYC and they went to Washington DC for a week too. Apparently, when my friend suggested she take part in the family routine (because she WAS living with them for a semester and should have an equal share in the chores) by cleaning her room and help wash dishes once a week. I mean, was my friend is not the girls MAID, she was not in a hotel. Anyways, I went way off subject with this. Americans are FAR too nice. The people who hate them are either stereotyping, or is brainwashed by their government. The end.

because american's think they are superier to everyone else in the world. They try to tell all the other countrys what they can and can't do all the time.America is trying to find weapons of mass destruction in iraq but why is america allowed to have nuclear weapons and evry body else can't be trusted with them.Considering america is the only country to have ever used an atom bomb on someone(japan) i would think that it's america that should not be trusted with such weaponry.Let's not forget the world series!considering it is only an american baseball competition i think to call it the world series is both arrogant and self rightious

I lived in Europe as a child and I can say I was ashamed of my people(Americans). They were arrogant, selfish, snobs who thought they were superior to the native population. They expected all waiters to speak English. If they walked in a shop they expected the shop keeper to quit waiting on their customer and come wait on them. and speak English. Our government acts the same way. If a country does not do exactly as they are told by the American government they receive scansion's
Who made Americans God.

Not everybody does. But I suspect it is because many have let themselves be ruled be fear and arational systems of thought, plus Iraq was a really bad move, even when the plan was put out back in the 90's.
