Two school years ago, one girl in my art class thought that the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, and that Finland was a made up country. Don't worry, her intelligence hasn't faltered over time though - last Thursday she didn't understand what LABOR Day celebrated.
Back in May (last school year), while studying the Civil Rights movement in the 1960's, we watched a movie called 'Mississippi Burning' (1988, starring Gene Hackman and William Dafoe... good, good movie) about racism and the KKK in the south. A little over halfway into the film, another girl sat up as if she'd just had a revelation, and asked the teacher - "Wait... is this movie about the Civil Rights movement?"
Some of ignorance's finest works, I'm telling you.
