Time stood still for me once - I was corned at Eve's over twenty-ones disco night by 'mad dog' Martha - she'd taken a shine to me after seeing my disco shuffle on the floor - I tell you, she's built like a brick out house and has more chins then a Chinese telephone directory. I've never moved so fast in me life but I almost fell over my own flares - made it out by the skin of me teeth! And yes, I did know that time had stood still!

Depends, Is consciousness constrained by time and the functions of the brain, or is consciousness part of an aspect outside of time?
Perhaps time is simply an illusion of relating events, so if time stood still, whatever it is that is outside of time in consciousness would recognize a long gap of "something". We couldn't call it time standing still, because recognizing time standing still would require the passage of time for the observer, watching the great intergalactic pause of which he would probably be participating in.
Then again, maybe there are different types of "time" for different levels of being.

I have heard it stood still when JFK was assassinated and when the twin towers were hit. Like there were no birds or anything out. Total silence. Like the whole world was holding its breath. So yea I would say you would know, but some ppl just try to be normal about things. And go about their day.

How do we know that time is traveling forward, what are the indicators? ....maybe the red shift of galaxies indicating movement away from the spark of creation known as the Horrendous Kablooie. In other words, the observation that the galaxies are motionless would be a major indicator of time standing still.

Other indicators are the aging process of humans and life and in general. So the observation that entropy has stopped would be another indicator of time standing still.

No, it may have stood still for a thousand years a second ago. But we cant tell, because nothing has changed.

I'd say no.... as time is only relevent to each individual...

Try to time a minute in your head, and check how you do against a stop watch. See what I mean? ;-)

The life of a Mayfly may only be a few hours from its hatching to its death. How long does that seem to the Mayfly itself? If it had to wait at traffic lights to cross the pond, would 5 minutes to us seem like 20 years to it?

Have you ever seen that classic "Twilight Zone" episode; "A Kind of Stopwatch"? ;-)

Thats a good question........a real brain stopper. Well, i think we would stand still as well because we are enmeshed within in. Unless of course it were us that were causing the distortion in time in the first place. Anyhow, this is a Q. for Einstein really.
