Is this a valid excuse for the awful and unharmonius music of today, which describes most of it?

I like some modern music, I could even enjoy some rap, but, wow, it's so fully of nasally singers or random beats that I can't understand how anyone can enjoy most of them.

To each their own, but sometimes crap is crap, no matter what supposed hypocrisy can be found.

jimmy two times, what propaganda. That you've never heard of the old argument that each previous generation had to confront judgement by the ones before them is not my fault.

"Your parents didn't like Elvis" refers to the fact that, generally speaking, each generation's music is targeted only to that generation. It's designed for a demographic group to which you don't belong.

I never thought the argument attempted to pass judgment on whether Elvis or The Sex Pistols or Britney or Ashlee or Jet or...is actually any good.

Every generation has good and bad music. The bigger issue, to me, is how easy the good music is to find.

I'm old, so I've seen this quite a few times - personally, my parents didn't like Elvis because my Dad was a jazz saxophonist who idolized Bird & Coltrane and thought that Elvis was just some musically ignorant hillbilly - I didn't like Elvis when I was growing up because The Beatles hit when I was in kindergarten, and Elvis was just this actor who made terrible movies - my kids liked Elvis because Lilo & Stitch liked Elvis - Elvis' real significance is that he was an artist who divided the world into "Before Elvis" and "After Elvis" - the change was that great - and it takes somebody else coming along to shake up the state of popular music to releive the boredom & dissatisfaction you're feeling right now - in my time it was Beatles, Hendrix, Van Halen, U2, Metallica, NIrvana, and Tool (so far)
