I'm a happily married Lesbian. My partner and I want to have children, however she can obviously not get me pregnant. I'm just starting to look into sperm banks. Has anyone (gay or straight) gone this route? Can you please tell me about the process and any tips? Thank you.

The first step is to make an appt with your gyn to discuss things. He/she will be able to give you a list of sperm banks he's worked with. Contact the sperm bank and get a listing of their donors. Pick a donor and they will send the sample to your dr. The sample usually costs 300ish. Your doctor will ultrasound you when you get a pos. ovulation test and make sure you're ovulating and then inseminate you. The dr fee for the insemination is probably around 200 per cycle.

I've never done it personally, but I have looked it up online before. If you are looking for certain intelligence or artistic traits, you might want to check out sperm banks in cities near big colleges. They often have donors with these traits and it also lists them by ethnicity, racial background, eye, hair, blood, and skin color. You might like this idea if you or your spouse are musically, artistically, etc inclined and would like that in a child. There is alot of good information on the internet if you want to do the research for it.

Save the money and do it the old fashioned way. It only takes a few minutes.
