I was reading on wikipedia that saw palmetto is good for hair loss but I have no idea where it is sold or how you are supposed to apply it? I noticed my hair is thinning and I want to prevent it. Thanks in advance.

Saw Palmetto works against the anti testosterone but does not stimulate hair growth.

Saw Palmetto capsules which are soluble in fats or alcohol not water can be used. The liposterolic (fat-soluble) extract of saw palmetto provides concentrated amounts of free fatty acids and sterols (such as beta-sitosterol). One study with a saw palmetto extract suggests that it reduces the amount of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) (an active form
of testosterone) binding in the part of the prostate surrounding the urethra (the tube carrying urine from the bladder). Studies also suggest that saw palmetto weakly inhibits the action of 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to DHT, which then results in an enlargement of the prostate and baldness. In test tubes, saw palmetto also inhibits the actions of growth factors and inflammatory substances that may contribute to prostate challenges.*

Most health food or nutrition stores carry saw palmetto. Some grocery stores/drug stores may also (in America, anyway). It can be in capsule form - so you would follow the directions on the label as to how often to take the capsules.

My dad's hair loss stopped when mom married him, and started feeding him a diet that leveled his blood sugar (he was hypoglycemic), and also had him wash his hair in tincture of green soap (from the drug store). I don't know which was most effective. Basic info about hypoglycemia is available at www.hufa.org.

I think it's an oral supplement. You can find it in the vitamin aisle at most stores. Should be readily available.
