i have a humidifier that is 1 gallon however the output of the machine is 3 gallons can somebody explain?

It is rated to remove 3 gallons over a pre determinded length of time. which means you will need to empty yuor gallon container 3 times during this time period

It will pull out its rated amount of water as condensate. BUT after the first gallon is in it, they are expecting you to empty it or it has a built-in pump that sends the condensate up a hose into the sink.

Sorry I don't know why that is but I know mine is the same way. Maybe its just how they are made.
