I don't have enough information to give you a specific answer, so let me give you the generic framework and you can take it from there:

It's all about the flow of the syllables. Did you ever have to dissect poetry and learn about "feet"? There are hard feet (/) and soft feet (~). So "Ellery" flows like this:

/ ~ ~
El le ry

Ellery Jessamine flows nicely because the two names have the same structure, so the flow is /~~/~~. If it's a single-syllable last name, even better, because the symmetry is perfect:"Ellery Jessamine Brown" looks like /~~/~~/.

If it's a two-syllable last name with emphasis on the second syllable (i.e. McCain), then a two-syllable middle name with a strong foot first ends up giving you that same symmetry. Ellery Jasmine McCain flows like /~~/~~/ too.

Now, let's also consider the oft-used poetic license of "stretching out" the strong feet and putting a little space where a second weak foot would be. "Ellery Rae McCain" would flow like this: /~~/()~/ because you'd probably stretch out the "Rae" when pronouncing her full name. Also, if you have a two-syllable last name with a strong first foot, consider a two-syllable middle name with a strong first foot, because then you can stretch out both those names and get /~~/()~/()~, which still maintains that vaguely waltzy flowing feeling. Ellery Jasmine Stevens, for example.

Anyway, this was probably more than your attention span could handle, but perhaps considering this will help you figure out why some names appeal to you more than others - why some sound more "right".

The only Ellery I've ever heard of was Ellery Queen - a male detective (books and a T.V. show in the 70s).

The boy's name Ellery is pronounced EL-er-ee. It is of Latin and Old English origin, and its meaning is "alder tree."
