Gone with the wind is the ultimate epic love story set against the back drop of the civil war. Scarlett is a continuation of that story. You can't really call it a sequel. What is does is tie up all the loose ends of the original film. I think viven leigh was by far the better scarlett after all its the role that made her famous. Joanne Wiley Klimer also did an excellent job playing scarlett. However, no one could play rhett butler except clark gable. Timothy Dalton made a good bond but is not as dashing or charming enough to play Rhett Butler.

Gone With the Wind by far was better. There were so many elements to this book that made it a great story: the civil war, the characters, Scarlett and Rhett of course, the culture of the time, the drama.
If you loved the movie, try listening to the unabridged book in audio form. It has a whole different dimension.

Gone With the Wind is my all-time favorite movie! I have seen it so many times that I almost know all the lines! I watched about the first 10 minutes of Scarlett and turned it off. It just wasn't the same without Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable. Some great movies should never have sequels!

Gone With the Wind blows Scarlett out of the water (personal opinion). Don't get me wrong, not like Scarlett sucks, you just can't compare the two!

Gone with the Wind is a classic, a one of a kind. Scarlett continued the story, it was good, but not in the same class.
