I think it is scary! It is even worse when two friends are trying to compete with one another, even five year olds are now thinking they are fat!

At one end there is obesity and the extreme is this. There is a good book that was written in the 70's 'Fat is a Feminist Issue' which still makes sense even in the 21st century!

i think they are sick. they should be shut down. why would any young girl or indeed woman, in their right mind, consider starving themselves and end up looking stick thin? yes there is a difference between being obese and skinny, but there is also a difference between looking like a bloody skeleton and being of medium build as well.

and isn't it somewhat strange that while the likes of jamie oliver are going on and on about how fat kids are in this country and the whole obesity epidemic that is sweeping the nation, so to speak, there are hundreds of websites and magazines that promote anorexia as if its to be worshipped. women celebrities who are so svelte-like. take that victoria beckham- she for one sets a bad example. she's as skinny as hell, i mean by god, its as if she has a big head and stick thin body. she looks like a lollipop.

i am glad that you raised this issue, as anorexia is not something that ought to be swept under the carpet and forgotten. its a physical condition which can often be severe, if it gets out of hand and when a person refuses to eat as much food as they should.

It's scary. Young girls today are being fed images of women like Victoria Beckham and many more who seem to have a perfectly healthy body squeezed into their size 00 jeans along with the perfect lifestyle. I wish just one of these celebrity women would have the nerve to step forward and say that their health is in serious trouble and beg young girls not to follow their example instead of swanning around town with the latest huge designer handbags that they could easily fit inside.

It's rubbish, isn't it? They even make bracelets to denote what type of eating disorder they have, and wear them as a secret sign of solidarity. People need to face their problems and not create bigger ones...and definitely not glorify their problems.

Even pregnant people do this. Isn't THAT sick...? And they need help...but keep being "supported" by what they see in the world around them.

Worrying, but not at all surprising, when you consider the nature of the illness.
