My cousin is the legal gardian of a little girl. However, she's having trouble taking care of her. The mother's rights are "suspended" but not revoked. They wont be revoked until 2 1/2 years from March of this year. I have a good home and would like to adopt her. However, we'd have to wait 2 years to know if I could keep her for good, or if the mother would get her back.
My cousin though, if she tells CPS she's unable to take care of the child, the mother only has 6 months to prove she's able to care for her.
Is there away around all of this? Is there a way for me to adopt her and get her into a good home without waiting for 2 years?

You need a lawyer. I hope it works out for you. This child needs a loving and stable home.

If there is any justice and rationality in the world (that's a big IF) the folks at CPS would be VERY interested in doing the very best they possibly can for the child. I would talk with the case worker or supervisor and let them know of your interest in adoption and ask about the procedure you outline to shorten the waiting time. Bless you for caring and for wanting to adopt her.

unfortunately the mother still has rights but if she could be proved unfit you may have a chance i think parents like that should have no rights every child needs a good home to start with if the mother is unfit why make the child continue suffering waiting for her to change when she should of thought about that before having the baby good luck to you and the child
