It just skips right over them and they dont play at all. What's going on?

this just started happening though

They might be in the wrong format... you might have downloaded MP3 format vs. MP4 or vice-versa...
If it isn't an accepted format, it will transfer to your player, but it wont play.
Check the properties of the file

What file format are the downloaded songs in? Maybe they need to be converted to MP3 files.
