I know I'm going to offend people but this is just my observation. mean, Africans also have gotten a rotten deal from European countries ( from colonization) and their conditions of living are just deplorable, with wars, famine and all of that... yet, when you meet them, they are always smiling, so humble and just nice all around. And less defensive too, they don't see racism everywhere!
I may be generalizing, but so far, that's what I've observed.

Truthfully miss I think that is too generalized of a question the same could be said about many other races or cultures. You should witness the beauty of all and understand that all people come from their own story and when you learn that story you learn about them and their view of their culture. If you ask this question out of true curiousity I applaud your attempt to learn but understand that people are not different only physically appear different. good luck

You are right. I am living in Africa right now and have seen the same thing. However, I don't necessarily see it as a good thing. Africans are non-confrontational and have deep respect for authority. When you put those two things together, you get people who are unwilling to deal with rogue leaders and corruption because they "respect" their authority. If African-Americans had not confronted issues in America, we could still be segregated.

Some Africans are less racist (although I haven't really met a lot of racist African-Americans so it is hard to compare). It really just depends on what country they are from. Some are actually very racist. The country I am in now, there is some racism toward people that aren't African. Sometimes I don't let them know that I understand their language and hear some appalling things! LOL

I do agree with you, though, that Africans are humble and overall very nice people. I just wish that they could learn to confront issues and stand up for themselves.

Dahlia, when you described Africans as humble, I knew exactly what you meant..... minus the "you owe me something cause I'm black" mentality that white people have to deal with on a daily basis from black americans.
I'm almost thirty years old, and white (no more apologies). When I go to a fast food drive through, I notice the young black americans being perfectly friendly to the other black americans, I get usually nothing said to me at all, If I do have words said to me, its somewhat unintelligible and usually rude.
I am the customer, I hold out my money, I smile, I say HI!! And you as the employee ignore me at best? Completely rude. If the tables were turned, if I was a white guy 16 years old, and you were a black woman 30 years old, and I was the fast food employee- said restaurant would have a lawsuit in its hands approaching the millions.
What I'm getting at is that no one alive today under the age of 40 has any direct influence on ANY of our past history. Why is a chubby black girl born in 19 freakin 91 allowed to hate my guts, but I'm racist to even defend myself? I thought MLK's "dream" was color blindness?

When was the last time you were in Africa?
I agree with one of your other answers....the Africans in Africa are used to not getting help from others so they don't expect it. We African Americans are here in America so we expect more from the American culture. Hence the anger. All you really need to understand is that there is anger in every culture.
Americans mostly, Why cant African Americans be upset? Look what they went through, and why is it that Americans cant just understand that?. Why do we have to hide the anger to appease the Americans?.

I think they accept where they are and dont expect anyone to do anything for them.
I've met several people who wre actually born and raised in Africa. They are the most peaceful people I've ever met.
BUT ONCE again there are the bad apples, look at rwanda and the congo, those werent caused by european nations, that was caused within their own nation.
Also there is more poverty in Africa and they dont use voilence against each other like african americans do here
But I know what you mean people will call you a racist and me a racist for just trying to understand

Ive been to Kenya and like you have notice this. But when I was in the States New York I notice that Afro Americans had a huge chip on their shoulders. I wonder is it because of past history there or what? I found them to be rather aggressive

your question is akin to asking why aren't Europeans as racist or as bigoted at European Americans.

When I spent time in the Middle East and Europe, I noticed that Europeans had a tendency to be more refined, educated and well rounded individuals, where European-Americans had a tendency to be overweight, bigoted, less hospitable and unapproachable.

America simply has its own unique history and culture.

I have two really good friends who are from Congo. When they were both in High School they got a lot of crap from about 95% of the African American kids in their classes. They weren't liked because they paid attention in class, got good grades and lived in slightly nicer homes. They were told almost daily to go back to Africa. I personally think that it is just a poverty mentality. My best friend who happens to be black told me once that in her school, if you do good then you are "selling out".

This question doesn't make any kind of sense what-so-ever!!!!!What is the question??? Are you saying that we are two different people? Or is it that over in Africa their nice and black Americans aren't? I'm a little confused!
