If Peter Crouch was 5ft 11 would he still recieve so much stick. His record for England has been amazing and yet he is still treated by some as a freak who can hardly kick a ball. Are most football fans judging their oppinions by looks rather than ability?

I just think it is a shame as most guys usually criticise girls for judging players on their looks and not their skill.... look what everyone is doing with Peter Crouch. How many goals does he have to score or set up to prove he is international class??

if he was 5 11 everyone would love him and say he's just as good or better than Rooney, its because of his height that everyone picks on him.

If he doesn't score they say he's rubbish, if he does score they still say he is rubbish.

Unless I am mistaken the criterias for being a striker is that you score goals or assist in the scoring of goals, Crouch is capable of doing both.

How many other English strikers around atm can say that they have score 10 goals in 11 games for their country?

Not even Wayne Bleeding Rooney can make that Claim.

What Mad Manc says is rubbish. Crouch is a centre forward whos job is to score goals. So what has he done in the last eleven games? Scored goals. If Lineker or Shearer had hit a run like Crouch they would have been national heroes. But because he is a quiet lad who does'nt hog the headlines but instead get on quietly with his job he is seen as some kind of misfit. Because England have kept a few clean sheets recently McLaren singled out Ferdinand for special praise after the last game. What!! This is the same defence that couldn't defend against set pieces in the world cup. Give the lad a well deserved pat on the back and leave him alone. And for everyone who is talking about Owen being an automatic choice think on. When he returns from the kind of injurys he has suffered recently he will have lost a good yard of pace. For a striker that is a disaster. I am sorry to say that I feel he has seen his best days and will never be the same layer again.
Oh and by the way Barry some of the best strikers in the game over the years have been poachers just waiting around the box to tap in goals. the mark of a good player though is the ability to draw defenders and to influence the game in other ways. Now unless you and I were watching different games last week I think you could say that Crouch makes a very substantial contribution to the team other than just with his goals. He is beginning to put me in mind of Ian Rush.

Crouch is top quality! The argument people make about him not being good because he's only been scoring against a lower class of opposition (Jamaica, Andorra etc) is rubbish. You can only beat the team that is put infront of you, and also the other "world class" players in the England haven't been scoring a load of goals have they? If the're so much better why have'nt they scored as many as Crouch?? Come on Crouchie, keep it up and England will win Euro 2008!

People always say that he's a fluke and that all his goals are tap-ins but i don't think so.. To even score a tap-in goal they must be able to position themselves well just like v.nistelrooy,he always manage to beat the offside trap and that's one of the most important criteria that a striker should have which is positioning. Peter's goal yesterday against Macedonia was brilliant not even Rooney can score a goal like that

I never rated him before. (playing for a team that got relegated isnt a great advertisment) but at the minute the man is carrying England. Scoring goals and running further than the midfielders during the course of a game. Keep it up Crouchy lad

You are totally right. I don't why Peter Crouch gets treated the way he does. He is an awesome player and deserves to be treated like the other players.

he is the flukest player in the world who can only score tap ins against poor opposision. he can not create he's own goals. just in the right place at the right time to tap them in,thats all! wait till Dean Ashton is fit again. Much better

that short guy?..lol

I agree with ya mate... Now its the looks not the talent unfortunately.... there are other players that are treated this way ... like Wayne Rooney..an excellent player judged by his looks and temper , not by his ability to play amazing football
