I've noticed a lot of a new cars have those real bright almost blue-ish white headlights. I really like how well you can see with them. Is there a specific name for them? And do you have to buy new headlights and put them in or can you just buy the lamps and put them in the original headlights? I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma with regular lights right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

HID is what the lights you describe are. The conversion kit is very expensive. Pep Boys and Autozone sell Sylvania Cool Blue headlights, but if you really just want to see better at night, Get Silver Star bulbs. They are very white an bright and 100% street legal. You should be able to get them at most auto parts stores for $19.99-$24.99 each or some bulbs come in a 2-pack for $38.99-$48.99.

Those are HID, for High Intensity Discharge. They work by something sort of like sending a bolt of lightning through a tube of xenon gas. The only real chance to swap them out is if there are any Tacomas that come with these from the factory. If so, you will need to swap the whole thing over - reflectors, sockets, and a special high voltage control module.

There are some aftermarket headlight bulbs that try to look like HID lights, but these are just ordinary light bulbs with filters on them. The filter works by absorbing light, so these put out less useful light than an ordinary bulb. And they don't really look like HID's at all - the color is all wrong.

They are called High intensity discharge or HID lights. You can buy the real kit (which will blind other drivers if your car did not come with them from the factory) for between 300-1000 dollars or you can get some cheap, blue colored looking bulbs for about 20 on ebay. I would go for option 2 because the kits that make it real HID are not street legal for a reason, your headlight must have been designed for real HID light in order to work properly.

Ask for Xe neon headlights. They come in bluish white. There are also yellow colored varieties. As far as replacing them, all you will need to do is unscrew the old bulb a quarter turn from behind the headlight (hood open) and remove the bulb from the holder. Installation is the reverse of the removal. Anyone can do it.

Please don't. There's a reason headlights are the way they are. The white ones create a lot of glare and blind other drivers. Their effect is even worse than driving with your brights on everywhere.

its Xenon lights.

Xenon lightbulbs can be bought, so headlights too.

But warning: the lightbulbs don't have the same geometry, so you cannot just attempt to fit Xenon bulbs in your current optics - you need new optics
