I've been quoted 2700.00. I mean the car was still running, only after about an hours time would it start to shutter in the first couple gears until it got to crusing speed. I feel I'm being ripped off!

A 2005 should be under warranty in my opinion. If your tranny is bad, you better make sure the fluid is at the correct leval and maybe try adding some Lucas Transmission Fix and see if that helps at all. It's an $8 to $12 fix instead of a $2700 fix. As for replacing your tranny, I'm guessing the tranny would be between $1800 and $2200 for a reman and $500 labor is about right.

Sounds like an Aamco quote. That transmission completely rebuilt should cost about $2200.00 installed. It is computer controlled and all the electronics must be checked and properly diagnosed. DO NOT PUT ANY TRANS FIX IN A BOTTLE IN YOUR VEHICLE IT DOES NOT WORK AND WILL ONLY MAKE THE REPAIR COST MORE MONEY. Only idiots would believe a bottle of fluid will fix a transmission. All that stuff does is expand the rubber seals and they never stop expanding, that destroys the transmission.

If you have a 2005 Impala go to your local Chevrolet dealer and have a GM Certified Tech do a diag on the Transmission. If the Transmission is bad they can install a SRTA Transmission under warranty.

as long as the transmission shifts normally, you don't need a new one. and with a 2005, it seems like a rip-off. the shimmy doesnt even sound like a transmission problem. it can be something else that causes the car so shutter at low speeds. visit other shops with the SAME EXACT description of your problem and see what other people think. good luck!

ok, if you have a 2005 impala, the sucker should be still under warranty. Perhaps even the manufacturers warranty, but if not, check about having it rebuilt instead of replaced. Rebuilt should run 1000-1600. And get a second opinion.

transmissions are not cheap. your best bet is to get more than one estimate. Only then will you know for sure, also another possibility is to track down a used transmission at a junkyard (with only a few miles on it) generally 15k or less and then have it installed. hope this helps.
