My girlfriend and I recently had our baby (Sep. 4) and my son was delivered using the vaccum. She was just starting and pushing fine and the Doctor left then came back 5 minutes later and said he had to perform another delivery soon so he had to use the vacuum with my girl. My son now is having complications with his breathing and had to be transferred to another hospital. Does anyone know if this unnecessary procedure is the cause of my baby's health issues?

That sort of thing is grounds for a malpractice suit if that is the reason your son has health issues. I personally don't know that it is the cause, but I do know that the doc should have brought in another doctor either for your girl or for the other delivery. If vacuum delivery wasn't medically necessary that's really screwed up. What a jerk- If you can you should sue him!

No the vaccum has nothing to do with breathing if the baby was premature that can cause problems. My son was a vaccum delivery and he was fine after just a weird lump on his head where the vaccum was.

Vacuum deliveries should *not* cause any problems... but there is a risk in everything... I hate when doctors try to rush labors (or stop them because of something similar...)

My brother's daughters were both delivered with a vacuum and didn't have any respiratory problems. You can certainly talk to the pediatrician about this if you believe it caused the problem.

YIKES!
"Sorry....I don't have time for you....let's suck him right out."
I'd never hire that doctor again.

I'd certainly start talking to some of the docs and nurses at the hospital and see what they say.

I hope everything turns out OK for you!

Sounds like a crappy dr, leaving you and your poor girlfriend there waiting. I would be pissed and let him know about it.
I hope your son is ok, God bless.
