The current USA roster signed a three year commitment to the team. This was their first year to play as a team. They are usually competing against each other. Whereas, teams like Greece, Brazil, Spain, etc. all play together throughout the year. Give the USA team another year, and I think they'll be competing for the Gold.

The US is dominant. The best of the world has just caught up with us. They have actual national teams that been together for years, not just a hodgepodge of "stars" every 2 years. we're not sending the best players(no Shaq, no Duncan, no Garnett) and haven't been for some years now(I think the 3rd so called dream team was the last time we had the actual top players from this country on it, and I believe that was the last international comp we won). but if they don't have enough pride to wear the USA jersey I guess you can't force them. I mean look a Vlade, how long was he on the Yugo/Serb team. Now thats the definition of countryman pride. I think the US is on the right track of putting together a team that will compliment each other not just a bunch of individual stars. But keep the core together, don't strip it down and strat from scratch every 2 years. However I think you can have stars who are team players like the aformention three. The US has to realize that other people around the globe CAN play ball, and we got to bring our A game no matter what. It doesn't matter how fast you are or how high you jump, what matters is getting the ball in the hoop. US needs to drop the playground sportscenter flash and pizazz and get down to just stripped down, raw, in your face fundementally sound b-ball.
So what do we need to do. Nothing really. we just need to get down to the basics and play ball TOGETHER. putting egos and other BS aside.
And no we can't send the NBA champs cause like the spurs half the team will be playing for argentina or some other country

First they need to realize they are not the best TEAM anymore. A lesson in humility would help and maybe this did the trick. They also need to stop making excuses. Every time they lose the blame goes somewhere else. They only appeared good in this tournament when they were getting easy fast breaks and easy layups. You rarely saw them execute plays on offense and work fluidly as a team in the HALFCOURT game. In the open court on the fastbreak, they were beautiful to watch!!! They need to learn to play the halfcourt game. You can win basketball with smarts..not just athleticism. Having said that, Team USA needs to add different players. A team of Kobe, McGrady, Iverson, Duncan and Garnett would run circles around a team of Wade, James, Anthony, Bosh and Paul. It's the experience that sets them apart and the knowledge of the game. The young guys are great and will get even better, but it will take more experience. It's tough going against teams that have chemistry and experience together, especially with a young team. Let's stop blaming the losses on the rules. The Original Dream Team was incredible! They had the athleticism but it came with basketball knowledge. It didn't matter what rules were in place, they still would have won even if they were to play under todays rules and against todays competition. I wish just once to hear Team USA say..."We were not the better team. We need to get better." It's that simple. With time and experience playing together this team could dominate! Remember..Jordan lost for 7 years. Even he and the Bulls had to learn how to win. After they learned how to win ...it was game over for the rest of the league. This team lost even after they thought the right changes were made and what appeared to be the right players were chosen. This loss will only make them hungrier which, in the end, could be bad news for the rest of the world.

They have to get use to the rules and be comfortable playing the International Basketball rules.
They have to outsmart these teams that are playing smart basketball..
A good example was the Greece game..
We didn't expect them to play us Pick and Roll and force mis match. That's smart basketball to me.
They played us Old school type of basketball.
That is why we have to outsmart them.
Plus we need some additional players, and cut some.
These are my 12th man Roster:
Lebron James
Carmelo Anthony
Dwayne Wade
Chris Paul
Chris Bosh
Shane Battier
Dwight Howard
Kobe Bryant
Chauncy Billubs
Amare Stoudemire
Michael Redd
Shawn Marion
That's what now on TEAM USA in order to succeed!

As far as I know, the teams that beat us are actually true teams which practice and play together for years.
The U.S. can no longer compete by sending an all star team to represent our country.
The only way I can see that we can win is to take the NBA championship team from the year before and let them compete for the title.
It could be set up as a reward to the champions. Plus, every member of the team would need to be well compensated for their efforts only if they win the gold medal.
You might add a James or Anthony to the team as a reserve, but only if that player would buy into that scenario.
BTW, that compensation thing should be used at the Ryder Cup. Why shouldn't the team be rewarded if they win?
