okay, this came out badly. in the "computer" class we are taking, we are spending a quarter on typing practice. the teacher doesnt check if we are copy-pasting.

the second quarter we are "learning" to use word, powerpoint, and exel, which i have learned at least three times in other classes.

i am only on here because i gert all the typing done with half an hour to spare

my question should have been phrased "why does the government require us to take computer classes which do not teach us anything"

So you can learn to type with me in the same class as you, why else?

It forces you to take computer classes for the same reason it forces you to take math classes, English classes, etc.: It is in the nation's best interests to have a skilled workforce (not to mention in the interests of businesses who then won't have to shell out dough to train you) and to have an educated electorate (a necessary factor for democracy to succeed and thrive.)

I would be hypocritical if I criticized you for being here during class, as I am writing this while at work. *blush* (I'm sure I'm not the only one around here who visits here while at work or in class.) But please try to understand that the practical skills you can learn in your computer class will help make you more money earlier in your professional life. So hit those books!

What Government do you live under. That is another reason you need the American Military to keep you free. I know of no Government which forces it's citizens to take computer lessions. in most cases it's hard ot get into public classes worldwide. Islamic countries regulate who can take computer classes. many student sthere are nbanned form them and most women are.

So when you grow up you can compete in the real world.
We are only allowed so much time in answers, then the next student gets so many minutes. So no one can be on here all the time. Don't you have other classes that comes to your computer.
We are quized so that our teacher knows we were paying attention and on the right class.
If you get caught screwing around you can get in serious trouble.
Then your computer station is right by her desk.

Because BCIS (formerly INS) is the most bloated, lazy, inefficient bureaucracy in the US government. They take up to five (5) years to process a green card application, then up to five (5) uyears to process a citizenship application. Some legal aliens BECOME illegal for no other reason than that the immigration services take that long to process application. And you want them to actually get rid of border-jumpers? Tough chance. And as far as targeting illegal immigration in general, BCIS-INS always goes after easier targets -- generally, the elderly and children.

Because the purpose of public schools is to prepare people to function in the modern business world, and computers are so prevalent that most jobs require at least some basic aptitude.

If we could break the teacher's union and have school vouchers, you could find a school that did not "force" this on you. However, I would never attend such a school because being able to use a computer these days is as important as being able to read and write.

No one is forcing you,but in this day and age of information it will become a necessity. Computers touch our lives in a lot of ways. Don't be left behind.

Government does a lot of dirty stuff. Look at some of the questions on here. You don't believe all those little pictures and questions, do you?

It is the state educational system of your school that desides the ciriculum. Vote for a new school board, when you get old enough.
