No crying underwater is not possible because of 2 reasons.
1) While crying there is a spasm of muscles , of that of the oesophagus (throat) and this would result in death of an individual if he/she is under water.
2) The external fluid pressure will not permit the tear gland to secrete tears there by nullifying the possibility.
Thus u cannot cry unre water..
of course except if u are wearing a goggle or u are in a submarine! :)

Yes,... people can cry underwater, your tears would just flow with the water. If anyone has ever gotten hurt underwater, (like myself) I'm sure you shed a tear without even thinking about it.

"Oh...and the person that said this, this is a load of crap-o"

No. Water prevents the tear ducts from producing tears due to the pressure that the water exerts over the eye and on the body. Any attempt at crying under water can actually do damage by having the tear duct open with a back pressure present causing "reverse crying" and hence flooding the duct and upper sinuses with water. This could be very painful. I dont recommend it.

For everyone else, that is, those of you confused, the phenomenon of tears does not constitute the act of crying.

Throw that notion right out. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Think about this, my dears. I get a dust mote in my eye, I shed tears, but I do not always feel the need to cry about it. I roll out of my dark sleeping bag in the morning and am blinded by the sun, I blink away a few tears, even though I am quite happy to see the new day.

Sobbing, sniffling, etc, these are all manifistations of crying, but does the lack of any single element deny the act of crying?

Any more questions?

That is one very creative question....but I have no idea...I suppose so, as long as they are not sobbing, because that would require them to breath in, we'll they could probably sob if they were breathing through that thing people use when they go snorkling. But I'm sure you could just have a tear come out of your eye, perhaps underwater. Who really knows.

Yep, if you cry under water, salty water is released from your tear ducts and will disipate into the surrounding water rather than run down your face.

yes, but why would you do it? the whole point is to have other people see you cry and feel sorry for you.

I doubt it...I wouldn't be able to...You breathe, sniffle and stuff without doing it on purpose when you cry so you'd take in too much water.....
