Montreal Canadiens by a mile. They're the most beloved team in hockey and in Canada. Also the winningest.

I remember growing up in Toronto and watching the Maple Leafs and Senators fight for last place (back in the days of Felix "the Cat" Potvin) Now the tides have turned and teams like Calgary, Ottowa, Edmonton, etc.. are making a move into becoming serious competitors. However...I still believe Canada's team belongs to one of the original six teams...the Maple Leafs (though the Canadians have been the most successful team in the history of the league)

I live in Don Cherry's home town Kingston Ontario, and he always says Kingston is all Toronto well let me tell you something its not, there more people wearing Habs hats then Leaf hats. Habs own the Leafs since the Leafs joined the NHL in 1927. Montreal Canadiens have been around since 1909 and in 2008-09 season it will be the Habs 100th anniversary.heck Montreal Canadiens have 1000 more wins then the Leafs do in regular season wins since the league been called the NHL.

There are way more desirable leafs followers than Montreal followers. the sport between Montreal and Toronto had many leafs followers. Ottawa's homestead sport hostile to the leafs had more desirable leafs followers than sens followers. Montreal remains the common crew contained in the NHL and Canada because of their rich heritage of fulfillment with Stanley cup victories

BASED ON THE RECORDS OF BOTH TEAMS FOR THE LAST TEN YEARS I WOULD SAY MONTREAL IS THE BETTER TEAM. THEY HAVE MORE WINS AND THE MOST STANLEY CUP TITLES. THE LEAFS HAVE A LOT OF FANS FOR BEING A AVERAGE TEAM. THE LEAFS AND CANADIENS ARE NOT THE ONLY CANADIAN TEAMS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR CANADA'S TEAM. WHAT I MEAN IS WHAT ABOUT THE FLAMES AND THE EDMONTON OILERS? THEY ARE GOOD TEAMS IN CANADA TOO. HOWEVER, I PICK MONTREAL.

Toronto is the team not in the french part of Canada and the french have the Habs. It's split.
