would you prefer to go use the bathroom when it is a letrine or if you had to stand over a hole to go, or use an outhouse, or go to a country where everything around you has been soaked by someone? The same effects are there as well. People and kids who are unthinking or too lazy to use the specified facilities overtax our system with bacteria. All we can do is use what we have (chlorine) to get rid of what they produce. Seems lots of people use those pools, but they also use the oceans and gulf as well and they aren't even chlorinated.

This is not the same thing as urinating in a bathtub. The chlorination in a public or private pool will destroy whatever is in the water with the exception of feces. The bathtub example was not a good one.

I've been swimming in pools all my life and nothing has happened to me. The chlorine kills the harmful bacteria so it's fine. And no I wouldn't go in the bath if someone had pissed in it but there is no chlorine in there is there?

Yep. I think about that all the time. Fortunately and unfortunately I am allergic to chlorine. I can handle minimal amounts but huge public pools that make you feel like you're swimming in bleach I get itchy red hives. I hate going to pools and to beaches because of all the other people there who may have some skin desease and of course, urine in the water. It makes me sick if I think about it.

If you drink water in London, it's almost certain that you're drinking somebody else's piss.
As for the pool, is it only an urban legend that some pools have a dye in the water that turns red when you piss in it?

I know, and i'm a bit of a clean freak, so i don't like it....there's school aswell - we've just got new toilets, and there's still no soap in them, only bars of soap, and hundreds of people with germ-filled hands will touch those, and if it's not proper anti-bacterial, then i'll be walking round all day with millions and billions of germs all over my hands......plus, some people don't even wash their hands after using the toilet, so me and my friends always have to wait for someone to open the door - we hate opening it ourselves, and they're not even as bad as me when it comes to cleanliness...:s

Its pretty nasty but I would guess most people piss in the pool.
The chlorine does kill the germs but the piss is still present in the water in every other way.
Then again just think that every time you smell somebodys fart you are breathing in particles of their shitt.

I remember reading somewhere that London's water supply is recycled 4 or 7 times, which makes you think.
