Pardon me for asking....but how old are you? Buying something like this for someone else should not be done, especially for a minor. This begins with common sense & moves into legality and responsibility. Think things through to cause and effect before you take any action. There are much better gifts to give a budding fireman than fireworks.

After the initial surprise and disbelief that someone would actually give a 6 year old fireworks as a birthday present, and then having to take them away (since fireworks are EXPOSIVES) and hearing him cry and cry, I'm sure their anger now is the fact that you just can't figure it out. If the child had said he wanted to be a policeman, would you have bought him a gun? I hope this is just a put-on because it's scary to know there are people as stupid as you.

You gave him a great headstart. He'll learn alot about firemen when he burns the house down. He'll also learn alot about emergency rooms if it blows up in his face or his hands. He'll be a regular One-Eyed Willie or maybe a Three Fingered Jack. He might even get to be a double Captain Hook. He'd be a blast at fishing trips then.

The parents are just swoll because you didn't buy any fireworks for them too but hey tough **** it's his birthday not theirs'.

He may want to be a fireman... but Fireworks should not handled by anyone under the age of 18! You just handed a six year old boy harmful explosives, would you also give him a stick of dynamite? becuase thet's what you just did.

If you are going to buy anything for a 6 year old (especially an item that is illegal in some states and potentially dangerous), you really should get parental permission first. It is ultimately the parent's choice.

You don't have kids, do you? Most parents won't let their children play with matches and you gave this child exploding fire. Let's marinate on that for a minute. Good intentions, potentially dangerous consequences. You might want to confer with parents before buying other gifts for other children. Just a thought...just a thought.

His parents may be upset because you gave their child a gift with the potential to do serious harm to him. Think about it like this, would you want your child to handle matches and play with fire? Even if you don't mind it, just remember that not everyone thinks the same thing as you.
