What would you change about our government? I'm talking about the way it's run. Like with the House of Representatives, Senators, judicial, military branches, supreme court. NOT about the laws or important issues (i.e. abortion, imigration etc. etc.). I'm just curious to see what people would change and why!

Oh, so many things. My top five....

Eliminate primaries and official recognition of political parties. Every candidate runs as an individual.

Eliminate congressional districting, except in very large populous states (NY, Texas, California). Use proportional voting and cumulative voting for candidates, with the top N candidates being elected.

Forbid campaign contributions from corporations, and fix the soft-money loopholes in campaign finance laws. Limit each candidate to a specific amount of advertising time, so that having more money doesn't automatically result in a win.

Change the electoral college to be proportional voting, rather than all-or-nothing.

Require all elected officials to be contractually bound to any promise they make during a campaign. Anyone who votes for that candidate (and printed records will be kept) can sue that candidate in federal court for breach of contract and breach of promise. That keeps candidates from making wild promises, and helps to ensure they actually represent their constituents.

That's a start.

Completely remove the House of Reps, Senators, judicial and supreme court. Military...no comment about them.

Put a hold on all immigration and remove the illegal people that are here now.

Bring some real people in to replace the morons running the show right now...

The country should be run by the real people that live in it, NOT the money grubbing scum that run it now.

rI would take abortion out of the government and leave it up to the individual.
I would put Federal Judges up for election ; All off them. No more life time paradise for 70/90 year old judges or free rides.I would [put congress and every member of the government on Social Security for retirement and health care and see how fast they fixed the system.
I would stop senate and Representatives at no More than 12 years. These are all millionaires they don't need their 20 to retire.
I would force them to pay for their onn health care, drugs, drug and alcoholic rehibitation.
I would stop the tax payers form haivng to front the federal election of president and let the canadates pay for it themseves.
Many of our federal judges are notof the mental condition to be therem but stay forthe free ride on the taxpayers back. No judge should be allowed to hold office without being elected.
I would pay the military pay better than federal white collar workers as they deserve it for the duty they do for their Country. This would maintain a well trained Military, requiring well trained, and educated recuits.

I would change the voting system to be more based on the majority vote. The biggest thing is that I would have longer term officials by 1 or 2 more years. Most of the plans and budgets they propose supposedly take 6 to 8 years. So what ususally happens is they implement a system then at the end of 4 years it gets redone to something else and the first does not have a chance to see it way thru. Longer terms for local and state officials. shorter terms for federal officals longer term for pres.

I assume you are talking about the US government.

I would return our government to a much less "top heavy" structure. The way that our government was originally intended to work was that most of the power lies in the states. The role of the federal government was to be limited to regulating matters of interstate commerce and to provide for national defense.

Unfortunately, over the past 60 or so years there has been a trend towards more power for the federal government and less state autonomy.

To be honest, I have seriously considered making Military Service a requirement for all exiting High School students. Of course, if they were going to college, their enlistment could be held off till they graduated. If everyone did a minimum of 2 years service, they would all be in better shape, have skills taught they could use in the civilian sector.

Imagine the benefits they would receive. They would learn to work as a team, learn discipline, and all other manner of things taught in the Military. Not to mention they would receive college tuition to attend school after they got out.

I would also do away with the electoral college. Popular votes should elect the president.

I might also change to presidential term from 4 years to 6 years. They need to spend more time running the country and less time running for office.

I would change the fact that there are to classes to politicians. Republicans and Democrats.

Why should the president of the U.S. and all his followers preach and tell everyone to love all... not to be prejudice, or racist... however, they go through the same thing with Democrats and Republicans. Why must they be distinguished as 2 different classes? Would that make it easier for them to argue with the other? to make the other look like a liar (even though both of them are lying)... etc.

Yes that is what I would like to change. No Republican or Democrat race.
