I use FDS body wash for sensitive skin. If I use the normal type I get sensitive down there. I can't use anything else, either, or it starts to irritate my skin, and almost burn.
I've been using the same type of feminine wash for over 5 years with no problems. My ob/gyn says it's a good idea to stay away from anything with fragrance in it for down there.

Simply – you don't need them.

The vagina is self-cleaning, the natural flora in the vagina and discharge keeps the vagina clean and healthy, the vulva is a little different because dirt and dead skin cells can build up (much in the same way it can underneath a man's foreskin) so requires your careful cleaning but all that is ever needed is water alone.

Anything, whether it be 'feminine washes', soaps or gels all will have a different pH to your vagina, when the pH in the vagina is effected it in turn effects the natural environment meaning that balance of flora can be effected – in other words 'bad' bacteria [anaerobes] take over from the 'good' bacteria [lactobacilli] – this leads to infections such as bacterial vaginosis, similarly when the natural vaginal environment is effected it can also lead to other infections such as thrush.

Many commercial toiletries include chemicals that could be harmful to health, not just in terms of irritation, but also allergic reactions and chemical exposure.

Both vagina and vulva are made up of mucosa, this is similar to skin however does not have the protective layers so is more prone to sensitivity, this also means chemicals are more easily absorbed into the body – once absorbed they can linger in fat cells and contribute to health issues.

For example, well-known 'feminine hygiene' brand Femfresh contains the likes of Nonoxynol-14 that is a potential endocrine disruptor (concern for impaired fertility, increased risk of certain cancers), and Imidazolidinyl Urea which is potentially linked to cancer as well as can in cause irritation and is a liver toxicant.

Essentially such products are produced to play off women's insecurities about their bodies, by making women feel they need to use special washes to stay clean and smelling nice keeps their customer base loyal.

The products are completely unnecessary and pose a risk to health – funny thing is such products can lead to infections of which symptoms can include heavy smelling discharge, funnier still is that Vagisil advertise 'feminine itching' cream just before advertising their 'feminine hygiene' products, marketing at it's best!

Simply your vagina is self-cleaning, it knows what it is doing, you don't need these products, all you ever need to stay clean is plain good old fashioned water, you are doing yourself a lot more harm than good by using such products.

I use one and have founf it much better than shower gel or soaps as it has no soap content and is much more friendly to the natural juices your vagina produces to keep itself clean. With shower gels, I was finding I was over producing discharge and it was smelling funny, until I changed, now everything is happy and healthy!

I use Summer's Eve. It's less irritating than soap and it's excellent at controlling odor. If you get irritated easily, like I do, use the Sensitive skin formula.

Your best bet is warm water and a fragrance free soap such as simple. Its cheaper and more effective.

I use some when I can afford em cos they are really dear if you're to use them daily. but fragrance free soap could just be as effective. wish someone could invent something cheaper but just as good
