They're cautious to actually believe that someone can like and accept them for who they are. They don't want their heart to be broken, and would rather leave their guard up and be alone instead of getting their hopes up and going through the pain of rejection. That's how I used to think.

I'm an older woman, but I sure as hell aint thick. I've dated 3 younger guys, relationships that have lasted longer than dating men my own age. Perhaps the only thing is that after months of dating "some" young guys start treating us like their mothers. Try and understand that we've had "our" kids - we don't need to mother a lover!!!

Some ppl were just so bullied and made fun of when they were younger that it's very hard for them to believe people would actually really care about them, it's a defense mechanism, if they don't let you in you can't hurt them or make fun of them.

they have a self-image problem.
They look in the mirror, then look at the TV, and they know they don't look anything like the girls on TV.
So they feel unworthy, and can't believe that anyone feels any differently about them.

They're insecure about the way they look. Maybe instead of being so paranoid about it, they should do something about it, like exercising or dieting.
I hate people that complain about something that they have control over.
