If you didn't receive a citation and the state you reside in is a no fault state then tell them to piss up a rope or be prepared for a counter suit that will include both statutory and punitive damage amounts. Also, I would find out if the driver of the vehicle has the same mailing address as the owner of the vehicle. If so and the driver of the vehicle is not listed on the vehicle accident policy then the owner of that vehicle is liable for both damages to their automobile as well as to yours, including any compensatory damages you may claim due to possible economic loss.

Since you apparently have liability insurance on your auto insurance policy, that liability coverage should already include damage to other cars and medical expenses for injured people. Call your insurance company.

Liability insurance protects you against being sued. Call you insurance company. They should hire an attorney to defend you. That's what you pay premiums for.

Liability should cover both the driver and any passengers...
If you were served papers and are in fact being sued, you need to get a lawyer. he/she'll know where to go from here...

Truly, this is the best advice:
Stop talking about it to anyone.
Go get yourself a lawyer, and let him/her take over. it is worth the $$, beleive me. You'll wish you had if you don't.
Tell only your lawyer, then keep quiet about the whole thing.
I promise that you need to do this.
You can get royally screwed, especially by sue-happy people who already have lawyers. their lawyers make their $$ off of you.
get yourself one to prevent this.

Liability covers that. It is comprehensive that doesn't. Let your insurance company worry about it. That's what you pay them for.
