Neither. .. however it is diffucult to truly compare teams from different eras. The steelers of the 1970's were very good . . .strong. . and tough. However. . . todays teams would run circles around them and are just as tough. . .and much stronger. Today's offensive lines that average 300lbs plus would make the steel curtain look like a pile of shave cream in the old gillette foamy commercials. The niners of the 80's would suffer the same fate. The talent level, speed, quickness, and strength of today's players would dominate the teams from the 70's and 80's. Anybody who is open minded and not clouded by their love of the old teams will readily admit this. Perhaps the best team of all time. . .and I hate the cowboys. . . was one of the Cowboys superbowl winning teams of the early 90's. I suggest that only because they had so much depth in those years. They had future all stars as second stringers. They also had all stars across the offensive line and in the skill positions. . . aikmen, irvin, smith, novacek, harper. They just had so much balance and depth. Anyhow. . watch college football on saturday's. . .it's much better than the pro game which bites the kielbase today!

1970s Steelers, because they had more Hall of Famers than 1980 49ers.

Considering I am a major 49er fan - I would most definitely have to say that the 1980's 49ers are the Best Team.

The 70's Steelers were the single most dominant team EVER!!!!! The 80's 49er's, as good as they were, could NEVER have handled the 70's Steelers!!!!!

I'm going with the 70's Steelers as I'm not a 49er fan. I also wanna add the Raiders when John Madden coached them.

Both were outstanding. I would pick the Steelers because they were so dominant for so long. Their defense would often just shut the other team down so completely that the game was over very quickly. They were the ultimate "smashmouth" team but also had the skill players like Swann and Harris among others .

Oh, man! I'd pay money to see that!
I'd have to give a tiny edge to the Steelers, just on pure aggression and the fact that I've been a Steeler fan since I was a kid. But I sure loved watching those Niners - perfect execution on almost every play.
