Bush has caused a major division with in our country, it's true. He isn't willing to admit that he has created the problem, so he will continue to ignore it. But there's no ignoring the mishandling of the recovery effort in New Orleans, and the gulf coast that was caused by Katrina. If the government isn't able to provide relief for it's citizens internally. How do they expect to bring the insurgent problem in Iraq under control? Had the needed supplies been made immediately available to the gulf after Katrina, and had the breakdown not been brought to the public's attention through the media. Bush would have gained support for his policies here and overseas. But his priorities are so far out of whack, that he continues to loose favor even with the people that voted for him in the first place. The healing process will start when the campaign for the next presidential election begins. I just hope there are candidates that are willing to try new things to make the people here secure, and provide security to our true allies around the world through cooperation and mutual support.

The country has always been divided. The conservatives were out to get Clinton. The Dems despised Reagan. I wasn't old enough to remember prior to that, but let's face it the US was pretty divided during the 60's. This division is always around between the hard right and left. Always.

This country has been divided since the day it was founded. That is why it took so long to have the Constitution ratified. This country will never become one unless it is severely attacked again.

The liberals are instrumental in dividing this country, because of their constant redorick against Bush , and the liberal media and their yellow journalism, of constant lies and negative reporting.

It plain old-fashioned prejudice and bigotry.
The problem, as you can tell from so many of the responses here, is that a huge chunk of the country simply arbitrarily hates another huge chunk of the country, based solely on having different beliefs.
The only solution is for people to accept other viewpoints as valid, whether they agree with them or not, and to be willing to rationally discuss issues without labeling and name-calling.
Sadly, prejudice and stupidity are a contagious mental disease that has infected a large percentage of the world. And those of us fighting to contain and heal the problem are losing ground every day.

It's funny that people are sooo anti-Bush...when in reality they are just sooo mad that he was in power and actually got off his butt and did something about the terrorists attacks...remeber the USS Cole? Why didn't we do anything? Gee...I don't know but maybe we should ask "mr. long copy and paste" above.

Jim, there was nothing in the question that suggested we needed your agenda.
As of right now - nothing will heal because of that: everyone has a "I need to win" attitude. Not an "I need to fix" attitude.
