the issue is not being so difficult to change individually as much as it is as a society. our advertisers and corporate powers, make unhealthy so cheap and accessible, and a whole industry-the diet industry relies on our misinformation and our relying on the wrong idea to lose weight. If we educated our children and had wellness programs like we do just say no to drug programs and healthy living were not some chore as one must research, drive further and pay more to eat healthy and the information regarding correct diet is conflicting and scattered through out the media we are exposed to. diet is a lifestyle and if more stores besides whole foods and more fast healthy food places existed instead of the one place in your county, and we were exposed to this type of advertisement, and walking outside or being invovled in sports were more a norm than watching tv, and if vending machines dispensing crap, grocery stores pimping crap at the check out, restaurant serving sizes are 3 times the normal size ,starbucks 2500 calorie frappes were not the norm there would be a lot less difficulty, you cannot leave your house and not see or hear crap food ads, or not have fast easy access to it, then we buy into the diet industry lies and get our heads and self esteem all twisted up and gain more weight or feel helpless or develop eating disorders, not all of us but an alarmingly high percentage, it is worse for the girls whose mothers let them read cosmo and vogue so they get brainwashed by the media fantasy early as the ideal body type all over these magazines represents less than 3% of the female population I might be wrong on the exact statistic but I am close and not going to find my notes from class to be correct ,so get over it., coupled with the fact that these magazines talk down to your idiot *** and tell you how to think act feel, moms make your girls read maxim magazine or the articles in playboy, they provke thought, and talk to you like a peer and do not snow plow your daughter with diet industry lies and fantasy that help create inner drama. I think this emotional issue makes is demotivating and the thought of going to the gym fatigues some of us, that is just cause we need to erase societies lies and tell our selves new ones, all easier said than done, is being bigger acceptable, heel yes, there are pharmaceutical, food, equipment medical and athletic corporations who are counting on it and paying somebody somewhere to help exploit our feares and influence our values and misinform so that we hang ourselves with the rope we are given and buy their products.

It's probably more acceptable now since there are a lot more fatty's around then there used to be. I love fatty shows like The Biggest Loser, X-Weighted, Taking It Off, You Are What You Eat. I am skinny but love health/fitness shows and books. I have never had a weight problem, but if I did, I think I would be depressed and would work my butt off to be at a healthy weight. Imagine trying to find clothes to wear. I find it hard enough to find nice clothes and I am 120 lbs.
So it's more acceptable, but definitely not healthy. It's like the 2nd highest cause of preventable death, smoking is #1.

I try not to be prejudiced, but I differentiate between things that people can change and what they can't change. Heavy's not so bad, but when someone's obese I definitely judge them. I figure they have no self-control, and I wouldn't want an obese person working for me because I figure they value their own pleasure over all else.
So, no, being overly heavy is not something that is acceptable to me. It may be hard to change, but once you get in the habit it's actually pleasurable to be healthy and fit as well.

Not in LA for sure, in some places it is. The average woman is size 12 or 14, but the media and actresses try to show size 00 as attractive! Why not accept real women have curves?

It is in the US...most people are overweight and we have an image on loving yourself no matter what. That's great and all, but really we all should be worried about our health all the time instead of when it's biting us in the butt. Congrats for accepting yourself, just make sure with your doctor that it's not affecting your health.

No it's not.
People are making that assumption since America is getting heavier, it's accepted. It's a shame that America has turned into the most obese country in the world. Start the tread and eat healthy. Please!

How do you define "heavy?" The average woman in the U.S. is size 14, 5'4" and 140 pounds.
However, obesity is a growing problem, especially in the U.S.

If you find diabetes, accelerated heart disease, lack of motivation, etc "acceptable"...
It's not difficult to change when you realize that you put yourself in charge of your emotions...not the other way around...

Yes it is more accepted now. Its the norm in america. My govt. teacher has told us that %65 of all adults in our country are not only overweight, but theres nothing i can find to support that. If you really care about it go here

I am blessed with good genes. I am not heavy. It must be hard to be. Digressing slightly, Remember when we made fun of the women from the U.S.S.R. cause they were all fat? Oops.
