Besides chewing gum, how can I prevent from gaining weight. I wear braces, so gum chewing is out of the question.

Good question. Quiting smoking increases ones appetite. You will want to snack more than when you smoked, so keep handy foods that are low in fat, and carbs. Stay away from white starchy foods. Drink pleny of fluids, but stay away from pop. Take time to walk everyday. Find a new hobby that will take your mind off smoking and eating. Try eating 4 to 5 small meals a day. Don't eat past 7pm or 2 hours before bedtime. Buy smaller cloths and make it your goal to fit in the new cloths you buy. Take plenty of supplements. Good luck. I am struggling with the same battle.

When I quit smoking,I didnt gain any weight. I went for a walk every day and I was careful with what I ate. I also took a green tea supplement to help detox my body. Ive been smoke free for almost 4 years.I workout at least 5 times a week. I will never regret giving up smoking. Good Luck!

It is much easier when you are under 45 yrs of age. That'ts because your metabolism is still running fast so you can watch what you eat & excersise & able to lose any weight that u gain very fast. But once you reach past that age it gets very very hard--Especially for woman--(like Me--48 yrs) because your body is in menopause & most gain at least 20 pounds whether u stop smoking or not. So if your young don't worry or dwell on that now--Enjoy yourself--Your worrying will come later on.

Eat only healthy foods and stay away from soda. Get active and your brain will release the same hormone that gets released when you smoke.

get into a good exercise routine, go for a walk when you think you need to smoke, walk for as long as it would take to smoke a cigarette and enjoy the fresh air going into your lungs instead of the harmful things from the cigarette
