Where did your labor pains hurt? I have this sudden stabbing pain in the middle part of my back that comes and goes and at the same time pains in the upper part of my uterus. I always heard that labor pains were in your lower back and lower part of your uterus. Could it still be labor? My due date was yesterday.

Sounds like your baby may be sending you alerts that real labor will start soon. Everyone experiences it a little differently, but you'll know for sure when you can predict the contractions. When serious labor starts, the contractions will be about 15 minutes apart. They will increase gradually to10 minutes apart, then 5. This could take all day, especially if it's your first. Just keep busy, keep moving, keep smiling. DON'T rush to the hospital because you'll only end up on your back, which slows everything down!

When you can time the contractions at regular 15-minute intervals, call your doctor and let him/her know that labor has begun. You'll probably be told to go to the hospital when they are 5 minutes apart.

It's your decision, of course, but I would advise against induction. The baby knows best when it's ready to come. Trying to hurry things along makes labor harder and more intense - both for you and your child. Please let nature take its course!

A minute later...I just read some of the previous posts which mention pain. Please don't let them scare you! The cause of the pain that many women report is fear. It acts on the muscles that work during labor, tightening them so they cannot do their job properly. Early stages of labor don't hurt. Uncomfortable, maybe, but not painful!

When things get real is during what's called transition, when the cervix is fully dilated and the baby is ready to move through the birth canal. If you are going to experience any pain, it will be during this period, which can last anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour. I encourage you to refuse pain medication, because whatever you get will dope up your baby as well. Just grin and bear it. You can put up with anything as long as you know it's only temporary. Once you start the actual pushing, it's like one giant orgasm. It's a peak experience. Don't miss out on any of it - it's so beautiful!

I might not be much help with this question but I will sure try. Well not to make it worse on the woman who have painful labors. When I went into labor with my son I had no idea I just had a crampy feeling in my lower abdomen. Turns our I was 5 1/2 cent. when I went to the hospital (he was born at 34 weeks) besides that to answer your question. I think that labor pains are usually through-out the back and the abdomen area. I had back labor toward the very end of labor. So Im not sure if that is much help but Good Luck with everything.

When you are sweetie, you will definately know...and you won't be able to type on the computer it will hurt that bad. Sorry..I don't want to scare you...you just really have to concentrate then. More than likely it is going to start in your lower abdomen/pelvis and radiate around to your back and then up both the front and back. A sharp pain in one spot could just mean baby is lying on a nerve, or it could be a ligament that's being pulled funny. Take a short walk...it may stop. If it gets continually worse, call your OB. Good luck and congrats on the new one!

When you are in labor you won't have any doubts, what's going on (unfortunately you'll only know this afterwards), it hurts... a lot.
Labor pains are usually coming at 5 - 10 minutes' interval and in- and decrease over a few minutes.
If you have any doubts at all, call the maternity-ward at the hospital for advice.
Best of luck to you - hopefully you'll be having a baby tonight.

When it comes to something like labor, I would certianly call your doc and describe the symptoms and let him make the call, but personally my labor pains were in my lower / abdomen. Good Luck and Happy parenting!

the pains in the base of your back come with what they call the transition period this is when the baby is in a position and you feel you want to push...I have had 4 babies and the labour pains were all slightly different except the last part
All the best babes! and remember relax and enjoy your baby
they may cry for a while but babyhood does not last forever and the and the more chilled you are the more contented your baby will be

Yeah, but you should call your doctor since your due date was yesterday. They'll probably induce your labor. But that does sound like the beginning of labor though!
