They both give accurate readings, the one on your stomach is just an external view while the one youre doing is internal. There both SAID to be safe, with the same results. So dont worry!!! (Im 8 months pregnant)

One is an external ultrasound and one is a vaginal ultrasound. There is NO increase in risk for a vaginal one. the reason they use that ne is because the fetus is so msall at this point that it's easier to see from inside.......sometimes at this stage it can not been seen - or enough details can not be seen - to only use the external. As the pregnancy grows they will probably stop using the vaginal one. Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting" by Heidi Murkoff. It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. Your question as well as many others that you would not expect is in there. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!

No there is no difference really. Some doctors do that procedure early in pregnancy cause doing an abdominal u/s is not as effective. Although doing an abdominal u/s can be preformed at 8weeks will still result in the same general idea. An insertion procedure will result in better info and details about your baby.
Good luck and Congratulations!

As long as the doctor says they are ok, they are. Do you think a doctor would do a procedure on you that wasn't safe? You are fine. The procedures are fine. You don't get the ultrasound where they put jelly on your belly til you are 20 weeks(4months). You may be able to tell the sex of the baby too. That is my favorite part.
You should do anything that your doctor says. They've done it 10s of 1000s of times, your in good hands. Don't worry so much.

okay - first thing - it's a vaginal ultrasound, not an insertation. (not even a word.) The difference between the two is that the vaginal ultrasound gives clearer images because it's going straight up from your cervix to the fetus. Neither is dangerous - but as the pregnancy progresses it is doubtful that your ob/gyn would order another vaginal performed. good luck with your new baby.

You should not need to do a vaginal ultra sound again. The one on the tummy will be used from now on. Yes my wife tells me they are uncomfortable but it is used in early term. She had them with all 5 of her pregnancies so they are common and normal and safe, just uncomfortable.
Good luck with the pregnancy and delivery.

Neither is harmful. The only difference is the view. The baby is still so tiny that they looked up instead of over to be sure to find the baby in uteruo. Your fine and so is your baby. Its just protocol for anybody under 9 weeks pregnant.

I had several Trans-vaginal ultrasounds done. Typically they are done in early pregnancy because they can get a more accurate view(because they can get closer). Most sonographers are very good and and they shouldn't harm you or your baby. Congratulations!
Check out this site for more trans vaginal ultrasound info.

The intervaginal ultrasound is more accurate than the outside one...They can only do internals up until a certain month...relax...it won't hurt you or the baby.
