I'm just curious. Did you do it because of his dad being circed? Or cosmetic reasons? Did you do any research before hand? If so, did you use reputable sources like the AAP? Please don't turn this into a debate, I am truely just curious!

I just wanted to add that my son is 6 months old and I did NOT have him circumcised for some of the same reasons as the people below. It's no harder to clean than a circumcised penis and my husband/his brother/his father/grandfather never had any problems. I was just curious for the reasons that people do circumcise.

The only countries that routinely circumcise for non-religious reasons are the US, and also South Korea (due to wartime US influence). The Philippines has a 95% rate of voluntary foreskin cutting post-puberty, but their traditional procedure is NOT actually circumcision; nothing is removed.

80% of the world is intact. These men suffer no unusual health, hygeine, or social problems. Every mammal on earth (except bats) and in the sea has evolved a foreskin, and for good reason - it feels great. By the way, 450,000 US men who were cut at birth have died of AIDS since 1980. Circ does NOT prevent AIDS.

The reason that just over half of US infants are cut today is blind adherence to tradition. Guess what? That tradition took hold due to the work of a lunatic - Doctor Harvey Kellogg (of corn flakes fame). He put forth that circ would stop masturbation and thus cure everything from epilespy to tuberculosis. What a loon!

i'm 30 years previous and that i'm no longer circumcised (nor have I ever wanted to be). i does no longer have my boys circumcised because of the fact there is not any medical reason to try this and in the event that they like to be circumcised they are in a position to consistently choose for that as quickly as they are sufficiently previous. that's their physique, no longer mine and that i come across it no longer likely that they might prefer to have area of their dick decrease off merely because of the fact a great style of human beings do. except that's area of your faith, circumcision rather makes no because. Any determine that would stress a surgical operation on a new child because of the fact they think of it looks gross is a terrible guy or woman, era! that's not their precise to return to a decision how somebody elses "inner maximum areas" could look and purely an fantastically superficial ignorant guy or woman might choose for to do something like that for that reason.

My first son is circumcised because I did absolutely no research on the issue and I didn't know better. I regretted it the instant he came back from the procedure in the hospital. Unfortunately it's too late now to change my mind. I didn't make that same mistake the second time.

I didn't have my son Circumcised, and Yes his Father IS circumcised. It was a personal Choice, I did do lots of research, and I just felt that there was no real reason to do it, I just don't think Newborns need Cosmetic Surgery. That's Just my opinion and everyone has there own opinion and they can do what they want.

I did get my son circumcised because I thought it would be easier for him to clean in later life. I also know a few uncircumcised men who wished they were circumcised and my grandfather got circumcised at thirty and it was very painful. I haven't heard of many--if any--people wishing they were uncircumcised. My husband is but didn't have any change on my decision. I didn't do research before hand and pretty much did it because of the people I've met and stories I've heard.

My husband felt very strongly about circumcising our son. I didn't think it was such a big deal but boy did he. Because he felt so strongly about it I decided to go ahead with the circumcision. We also have an adult friend who hated the fact that he was not circumcised and decided to do it as an adult. It was quite an ordeal. However seeing my son get circumcised was very traumatic. He cried (although they gave him a local they still held him down and he freaked) a lot. My husband almost passed out...
I still think its just a personal choice and perhaps one that a man should make on his own. I don't see why it makes much of a difference with todays standards of cleanliness, my doctor thought it was fine either way.

My husband is circumcised.
Our son is NOT circumcised.

We could find no really strong medical reason to do it.
Good hygeine can be taught.
It really requires no special care.
If a boy looks at another boy in the locker room, the one who is doing the looking is the one who is gonna be teased for checking out another boy!
Kids are smart. They know that not all people look the same. They know that people have different colors of hair, different colors of eyes, different shapes of bodies, grown women have breasts and their daughters don't. Grown ups have pubic hair and kids don't. A boy won't find it confusing to look a little different from dad. As a matter of fact, my son is 7.5 years old and as far as I know he has never asked his dad why he looks different. The kids I have heard of who did ask said something like, "WOW! Thanks for not letting them do that to me Dad!"

(By the way.....the rest of the world doesn't do this like America does. Being intact is more normal in the rest of the world. The circ/intact rate in the USA is moving towards half and half actually. About 40% are intact now. AND the AAP recommends that it NOT be done as a routine procedure!!!!!)

My husband is circumcised, so we decided to circumcise both of our sons. Also because I believe a circumcised penis is more aesthetically pleasing. I had read studies that proved that uncircumcised boys were more likely to develop yeast and urinary tract infections. While they're young and I bathe them, that's fine--I would have taken great care in keeping them cleaned properly, but I had visions of them at 7 and 9 years old not bathing/showering properly, and making constant trips to the doctor for antibiotics. Most young kids hate bathing, period, much less taking the time and effort to pull back the skin, clean around it, etc.

I also believe it's much easier to circumcise a newborn. If my sons grew up and decided they wanted to be circumcised, it would have involved general anesthesia and several days of painful recovery. As it stands, one of my boys slept through his circ. and the other one sucked on his pacifier and calmly took in his surroundings. Neither of them made a peep.

I've been with two un-circumcised men before, and in my opinion, it's just disgusting. I have decent taste in men and don't go for the slobs (lol) but one of the guys had a "smell" about him. He was impeccably clean (almost to a fault) but there was something about him. Smegma is disgusting.

I had my son done because when i was in nursing school i saw a 16 year old boy who was not circumcised go thru a hard time. Even after he had the surgery it was a long hard ordeal. I didnt want my son going thru that. Plus i have seen both. And this day and age i didnt want my son being different and made fun of in the locker rooms. And the clean cuts ones just look so much better.

I have worked as a a CNA in a nursing home, and as a caregiver in a day care. You can teach your son to clean himself just fine, but when he is in the care of others, he'll have a lower chance of infection if he's circumcised.
