I work for k mart. You have to replace the bag for every garbage can in the store, Clear the stock room of garbage and boxes, collect the defected items and bring them to the back where they are put in crates, and finally after all that you have to go outside and collect all the shopping carts for the custumers. You can't leave the store till all the carts are in the front of the store and the bathrooms and fitting rooms are cleaned. And I can't forget about the sweaping of the parking lot...

I'd cancel the day off so I got paid for it. If it wasn't a regular work day where I'd get paid I would say "Is there going to be overtime pay for that?" But then I get paid by the hour. It's tougher if you're salaried.

That's an awfully hard question to answer without more information on the type of job you have and the type of boss you have.

In my job as an executive assistant, I need to do whatever it takes to get the job done. That's just understood. I agreed to it when I came on board so it's not a surprise. I'm not asked to work too many weekends, but I have and I've always been there for him.

However, there are other situations where a boss will take advantage of an employee, especially one who's salaried, by asking them to work weekends all the time, even though the employee is supposed to get the weekend off.

What's the situation? Do you want to make a stand?

Unless I was rich then I would come in. Should get paid more for the day though.

I'd ask why for starters. But, if there's a good reason, yeah, I'd come in. Is it for a meeting, or to cover for lunch, or all day? Extra pay for doing it?

Sounds like they need you. Be proud of that. Suggest a day that you can take off in replacement of your lost day. Bosses need people they can count on.

Depends on if they would pay more for me to come in, then I might consider it.
If not, I would just say I had plans that day

depends on the what type of job you do, why he called you in, and if you like your job enough to want to keep it.
