I assume you know who made dancing in the rain an art form. Gene Kelly starred in the MGM musical, "Singing in the Rain," in 1952, considered in many polls of critics to be the greatest musical film ever made. In the film, he begins dancing with an umbrella in a downpour and made cinema history. You must rent or buy this wonderful film - which introduced Debbie Reynolds to leading role status - and also starred another great dancer, Donald O'Connor. It dealt with the change from silent films to talking. Jean Hagen is hilarious as the great star of silents who, unbeknownst to the public, had a high, grating speaking voice with a Brooklyn accent. The film is as fresh to day as it was then. Get a copy and watch it. I guarantee you will be laughing up a storm. The musical numbers are great and all standards.
So now you just tell the uninformed that Gene Kelly made it an art form and you are carrying on the tradition.
