Coronado Beach...right behind the Coronado Hotel

Try Ocean Beach. There was a 7-11 one block from the beach and the beach itself is 12 miles long with lots of sand, a Pier and on the south end there was an amusement park with a roller coaster. Inland but still in Ocean City there is a Sea World Aquarium and lots of ritzy dining areas. That was 10 years ago, but that area never seems to change. There is also a couple of trailer parks on the Bay where the people who summer there are always friendly. Stay away from La Jolla, this time of year the beach trash are desperate and will take everything if they think nobody is looking. Even high summer we had to always have someone stay on our towels blankets food and beer coolers. Nice waves there tho.

By amenities do you mean bathrooms? Cause there aren't that many amenities at any San Diego beaches! Bring your lunch cause you won't buy it there! Especially now that tourist season is over.

La Jolla Shores is one of the nicest beaches. You can park there for free, and there are some shops in the town near the southern end. Parking is free there.

Torrey Pines is a state park. You have to pay to park there, but you can drive up the hill and go to the museum, then hike around the paths at the top, it's a beautiful view from up there! Then you can go back to the lower parking lot, change in the bathrooms, and haul out your beach stuff (including your lunch) and spend the rest of the day at the beach.

La Jolla or Wind 'N' Sea. Travel a little north and go to Laguna. Super snazzy beach locations with rocks and grassy areas.
