learn to spell, u idiot! its photon

2006-09-07 08:11:35 · answer #1 · answered by globe 2 · 1 2

You mean photon. And it cannot be "split" in half, in that you canot thing of it as fundamentally having a physical dimension. A photon is a quantum mechanical animal.

Certain nonlinear processes can cause a photon to be downconverted into two with lower energies (that under certain cirumstances are entangled).

However, these photons are not "smaller" than the original photon (which is implied by your use of the words "splitting" and "half").

Simply speaking, the words : split, and half, have no meaning when speaking about photons.

If you mean futon, which is a combination of bed and sofa, you take some type of saw and start working on it. It you mean photon, which is a particle-like wave of energy, then you cannot break it apart. I believe a photon is a fundamental "particle" of energy, and if it is composed of anything else then you can break it down to its component parts, but it would not then be a photon. Why don't you resubmit this question in the Physics section since that is where this question belongs.
