After careful evaluation of both models, the ASUS W3J is the best choice. How did I evaluate them? First I customized both laptops until they equaled each other in hardware/performance an what did I find? The ASUS ($1799) was about $200 cheaper than the Lenovo (formerly IBM)Thinkpad ($2059). And not only that, according to the specs the Thinkpad still did not meet the ASUS laptop in performance in one area. What area? The Thinkpad comes with a standard ATI 256mb card...that cannot be set to something more high performance. While the all ASUS W3J laptops come straight away with an ATI X1600 that is 512mb (256 for system and 256 solely for video).

The ASUS is a beautiful peice of equipment, however the customer service for ASUS is not. Their tech support via phone is good but they do not respond well if assistance is requested for a repair or such. On the other hand the higher priced Thinkpad has about the same hardware as the ASUS (but again that is after I added a DVD recorder for it to equal DVD burner that the W3J has), but Lenovo has great customer server over the phone and at-home service (example. If needing a repair they will send a repair man within 24 hours).

Buy the ASUS for great hardware or buy the Thinkpad for great service. But ASUS is comparedly good for what you are paying.

go for the ASUS
the think pad is not a very good machine as it used to be, especially since they sold it over to lenovo
i work with them everyday and they r not as solid as in the past
and they do not have a good customer support
and ofcourse they r expensive
hope this helps
