A group of students starts a secret society where they read poetry to each other because they discover that their english teacher did the same in his youth. They also become more rowdy in the process. It has Wilson from House as one of the main characters. Sad ending though :(

From yahoo: Set in an exclusive boys preparatory school in 1959, a newly appointed English teacher uses unconventional techniques to inspire his students in classic poetry.

From imdb.com: Painfully shy Todd Anderson has been sent to the school where his popular older brother was valedictorian. His room-mate, Neil, although exceedingly bright and popular, is very much under the thumb of his overbearing father. The two, along with their other friends, meet Professor Keating, their new English teacher, who tells them of the Dead Poets Society, and encourages them to go against the status quo. Each, in their own way, does this, and are changed for life.

I love that movie and I STILL say Robin Williams deserved the Best Actor Oscar for it!!!! As said, it's about an English teacher at an exclusive boy's school in the 1950's *Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard..now on "House" were among the students. He challenges the boys to "Seize The Day..Carpe Dieum" and encourages them to think for themselves. The ending...............God.....I wont ruin it...but I HIGHLY recommend it!

I loved that movie! Robin Williams is amazing in it, and so it Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard. I saw this when I was in college...and, I remember that it inspired a lot of my classmates to choose Education as their major so they could become teachers.

Overall, it's about a boys prep school where the boys are inspired by their teacher to read poetry and challenge their comfort zones.

Awesome movie. Very uplifting. It's about a bunch of boys in a private school that join a special, somewhat, underground type club. Their teacher is played by Robin Williams. He becomes quite an inspiration to the boys lives. I would tell you more but I don't want to give anything away. I do reccomend it!!!!

i saw ages ago. it's about a load of messed up teenagers who go to a boarding school and what happens to them when their new teacher comes along and starts doing things differently to all the other teachers. it's called "dead poet society" because they call meetings at night in the wood to entertain themselves and they name it the dead poet society. it's a good film but it really sad (one of the boys kills himself - sorry if you didn't want to know)

It is a very good movie. I highly recommend it. It's one of those movies about a teacher that really connects with his students. There are some really sad parts though.

It is one of a large number of films from the 80's where a substitute teacher changes the lives of his previously unruly, misfit students.
