What would be the best weapon to grab in a Zombie situation?

When choosing a weapon for zombie defense, there are many things to consider.

In the way of guns, most people would think that the biggest, fastest weapon is the best. They are wrong. The only way to kill a zombie is to destroy the brain. Conservation of ammo is second only to survival, and you can survive with a slower weapon. If there was a best gun, it would probably be the semi-automatic rifle. Good range, and one bullet fired every time you pull the trigger. Fast, but not too fast.

As for a melee weapon, pretty much any sharp object or bludgeon can be used.

Bludgeons are heavier than bladed weapons, as they need the force to crush the skull. Things like sledgehammers and and pipes are strong, but are too heavy for those on the move. Weapons like metal baseball bats are good for one or two fights, but start to bend after a while. One of the best bludgeons is the crowbar. Not only can you smash zombie skulls with it, you can also use it the way it was designed to be used.

Among bladed weapons, two of the best ones are the katana and the machete. The katana has good range, and is a strong weapon, but might be harder to find and be expesnive. The machete is cheaper and much more common.

Melee weapons to avoid are power tools, like drills and chainsaws. Many people think they are the best weapons against zombies, but they're not. What happens when you run out of fuel? The weapon becomes about as useful as a hand held stereo. Carying more fuel increases weight, and the chainsaw weighs about ten pounds already. Also the spinning teeth of a chainsaw can't tell the difference between zombie flesh and your flesh.


But it seems I've over-answerd your question. I would take the machete. Blades don't need to be reloaded.

1) Heavy staff or club; easy to carry, easy to handle, easy to find almost anywhere, and effective in crushing heads/brains.
2) Baseball bat: less effective than #1 above, but even more commonly found and available. Older, heavier bats are more effective due to sturdier design.
3) Sword: a powerful weapon when used effectivelly. Excellent for chopping the heads clean off with one swift stroke!
4) Gardening scissors: although you need to get in real close, these oversized scissors get the heads chopped off effectivelly! See "Flesh For Frankenstein" for a gruesome demonstration!
5) Firearms: if you're a sharpshooter or aim well, these usefull for (almost) any occasion weapons work extremelly well from a distance!
6) detonation devices and bombs: To be used from a distance, but extremelly effective at getting rid of the whole package, as well as clearing a path to where you are going!
7) an Axe: easy to carry, easy to handle, but not always effective at getting rid of the walking dead. Still, if there is nothing else handy, grab the axe!

There are more I can't think of right now, but I am sure other zombie fans will come up with other fantastic ways to dispatch zombies!
