That's disgusting Teach sending your little boy out for a natural body function. Crumbs my five year old daughter has no idea of the concept of keeping her trumps in!
I think a little understanding for the lack of ability in bodily control at that age is needed. Frankly, the teacher needs speaking to. Your boy does not need to be "chastised" this soon and at the beginning of new school year. For all the teacher knows he could have a "condition."
I would be concerned he will try to hold them in now and get tummy aches - a distraction to active learning.
Teach - do your thing and speak with the head honcho to express parental concern (and do a silent but deadly delivery on way out)!!

Why don't you speak to the teacher? Of course he is going to tell you he tried not to- he doesn't want to get in any more trouble. Maybe the teacher will have a different story. Either way, you need to teach him to accept responsibility for is actions. I know he is only six and it was only a fart, but imagine how disruptive that could be to a classroom if suddenly it becomes acceptable. He had a choice to make: hold the fart or face the consequences. He chose to let 'er rip. He got sent out of the classroom. Oh well. Not like he got detention, or suspended.

No that is a poor reason to send a child out of the room. Have you talked to the teacher to get her/his
side of the story? Could be the teacher thought your
son had done it on purpose. The principal should
have addressed this. I feel for your son. I think
the teacher could have found a better way to handle
the situation. I work in a school as an assistant.
I am curious as to why the teacher sent your son
out. Must be more to the story than what you have
been told.

It isn't funny when you are the teacher trying to contain 25 or more little bodies and someone lets one go...everyone has a fit and girls scream and boys try to imitate and everyone laughs and class is disrupted for about 3 minutes each time... At some point we all need to learn to contain ourselves...you don't see the President letting one rip while giving a speech...there's a time and a place for everything.

Do you like your sons teacher? Do you trust the teacher to be fair?
I used to work in a nursery years ago and one little boy kept burping on purpose at lunch time. All the little ones began copying him so I told him to stop, said that accidental burping was OK and to always say 'pardon me.'
His mother came in the next day really upset because her son also said it was not on purpose etc. Once I explained the situation she was very relieved.
If you feel an injustice has been done speak to the teacher and if you like and trust them. Well it helps.

I don't think that it is a genuine reason for him to be sent out of the class unless the teacher thought that he needed to use the bathroom. It can also lead to embarassment for you son so I might just have a quick, non-confrontational word with his teacher.

I don't think sending them out of class is right, if no funny business was involved! It happens, he's just a kid, and he was polite enough to apologize for it.
Try being in 11th grade and having a guy let one rip! My french class teacher just turned beet red! It was pretty funny, but I did feel sorry for the poor guy...

I'll bet it wasn't the first time he has done this as a joke in class. A first-grade teacher is more than capable of ignoring a true accident (at least a minor one). Maybe she was fed up?

Typical six year behavior. Some teachers have been at their profession for so long, they have forgotten what being a kid is all about. Is the punishment too harsh? Yes, I believe it is. Now, if he kept on doing it over and over, then yes, the teacher needed to step in and ask him to excuse himself.
